NFL NEWS: Bears prevail in OT, one win from Super Bowl
Robbie Gould matched a career long, hitting a 49-yard field goal in overtime to give the Chicago Bears a 27-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. The win sends the Bears to the NFC Championship against the New Orleans Saints next weekend. Chicago will host New Orleans next Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
Seattle received the ball first in overtime, but when their drive stalled, a Ryan Plackemeier punt went only 18-yards, giving the Bears the ball at their own 34. Two plays later, Chicago faced a critical third and 10 when Rex Grossman hit a streaking Rashied Davis for 30 yards to the Seattle 36. Chicago's next three plays netted four yards before Gould trotted onto the field.
The Bears opened Sunday’s game with a 12-play, 80-yard drive that was capped by Thomas Jones’ 9-yard touchdown run up the middle. The key play on the possession was a juggling 37-yard catch by Rashied Davis on third-and-10 from the Chicago 48.
Rex Grossman’s pass slithered through the hands of cornerback Jordan Babineaux to Davis, who gave the Bears a first down at the Seattle 15. Three plays later, blocks by Ruben Brown and Desmond Clark sprung Jones for the first post-season touchdown of his career.
